ZZZ Carpentry, Inc. PEOPLE
ZZZ has 5 full time project supervisors in the field and 5 full time managers/administrators in the office. We also employ our own full time carpenters and laborers with a total work force ranging from 30 to 40 employees. 15 of us have been here more than 10 years, and 6 of us more than 20. We typically run 4 to 6 projects simultaneously depending on the size of the project.
John Sherman, owner and president.
John has been with ZZZ since 1992. Prior to taking over the reins from company founder Derek Huntington in 2009, he was a carpenter, site supervisor, project manager, and vice president. He holds a BA in Architecture from the University of Illinois where he spent his senior year in Versailles, France. John attends all weekly site meetings and oversees ZZZ projects from preliminary pricing through completion. A stickler for detail both in construction and communication, he works hard to achieve balance and consensus in all things ZZZ. "Most of our projects are one of a kind custom gut renovations. There's nothing cookie cutter about it. Doing it right means not only holding yourself to the highest quality standards but also engaging in a creative process. It has to be done with care, experience, and a lot of attention to the smallest details. It also needs to get done – it takes a very particular mindset that I try to cultivate throughout the company, based on impeccable craftsmanship, a can-do attitude, and respect for everyone involved – from fellow employees and subcontractors to neighbors and building personnel to owners, designers, and architects." John is also an accomplished musician and enjoys playing accordion and singing regularly in the New York area with the Cajun, country, and zydeco band Big Mamou.
Davita Robinson, project manager
Born and raised in northwest Ohio, Davita is a graduate of The Ohio State University. In August 1998, she threw her guitars and drums in a U-haul and hit I-80 East to fully immerse herself in the NYC music scene. Working as a project manager in the music industry by day and playing tunes at night, she switched gears in 2004 when she joined the ZZZ family. Initially hired as the Office Manager, Davita became a Project Manager in 2012 and has worked on lofts, townhouses, and most recently a commercial space in a historic building. Davita enjoys helping owners, architects, and the ZZZ team transform a space and seeing a project become a reality.
Dash Zhang, project administrator.
Dash is a graduate of Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon, but his love of design and architecture led him to the world of custom home renovations. Dash began his career with ZZZ back in 2005. Through the years he has picked up various skills from the company founder Derek Huntington, the current president John Sherman, as well as from many of his co-workers. This has allowed him to play many roles in the company from project assistant, estimating assistant, and now as a project administrator, working side by side with project supervisors and attending weekly site meetings.
George Lesko, office manager
George came to ZZZ with extensive experience in administration, organization, and management, accrued in the arts, education, and government. He possesses a B.A. In Philosophy from Mount Saint Mary's University in Maryland and also earned certification as a Technical Assistant to the Construction Official in New Jersey. George oversees the day to day operations of the office; which includes human resources, accounts payable and receivable, insurance, and purchasing. His outside interests include swimming, cooking & baking, reading real books, watching very old movies, and all things Japanese.
